Exhibit: Bicentennial 1812 Exhibit: Noose, Knife and Fire: The Bloody Assize Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum "You are to be drawn on Hurdles to place of execution, hanged by the neck but not until dead, cut down while alive and your entrails taken out and burnt before your faces, your heads cut off, bodies divided into four quarters, heads and quarters to be at the King's disposal."
This exhibit explores Ancaster's experience during the War of 1812, highlighting the Bloody Assize. Against the backdrop of the re-created courtroom of the former Union Hotel, view giant paintings of the prosecutors and accused, explore the evidence and judge for yourself. Discover the impact of the war on local farmers and residents, amidst the surroundings of an 1812 barn interior. Bread and Ballads: Tastes, Tales and Tunes of 1812 Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum Visit the Fieldcote grounds for a delightful afternoon listening to songs and stories of 1812 as played by the nationally-renowned Ian Bell of Muddy York and enjoy a sampling of our version of some rustic soldier's fare provided by the Coach and Lantern and Cheese Shoppe on Locke. Wander through the museum exhibit on the Bloody Assize of 1812 and watch our volunteer quilters as they demonstrate their sewing skills on our Bloody Assize commemorative quilt. Schedule of events - 12:30 & 2:30pm, concerts by Ian Bell, of Muddy York stories and songs from 1812; 12-5pm, Museum exhibit open for viewing; 1-5pm, 1812 Bloody Assize Quilt - quilting demonstration; 12-5pm, enjoy tasting our version of rustic soldiers' fare. Music At Fieldcote - Sneezy Waters Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum Waters, Sneezy (Peter Hodgson) came to national notice in the lead role of Maynard Collins' musical revue Hank Williams: The Show He Never Gave which premiered at the Beacon Arms Hotel, Ottawa, and then presented on tour throughout Canada and in the USA until 1982. Waters gave some 300 performances as Williams and appeared in a film adaptation of the show in 1981. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.
