Quilt Workshops


Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum

Participants will create a quilt to be proud of. This workshop runs the first Friday of every month from January to April.

March Break Video Camp


Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum

A week-long introduction to videography and digital editing for children between the ages of ten and thirteen. Children will spend the week at Fieldcote and the environs of picturesque Dundas Valley, designing a video storyline, preparing a script, shooting video and learning the basics of editing. A short documentary will be the result. Each child will be given a DVD copy of the project to take home and to school. A movie and other activities will be offered in the afternoon each day.

Create A Porcelain Doll

Instructor Maureen Wells' porcelain dolls are a delight. She took up the art of doll making in Africa, and has been instructing others since her arrival in Canada. In this intensive introductory class, students will learn to assemble, decorate, paint and dress their own porcelain doll, 13" (33cm) tall. Equipment provided by the instructor includes prefired porcelain, paints and brushes, material and stuffing. Maximum enrollment 8.

Before linoleum and the high cost of wall-to-wall carpeting in the 19th century, winter's heavy wool carpets would have made way to lightweight, durable and versatile painted canvas floorcloths in the spring. Learn a variety of decorative techniques, including stenciling and faux finishing, and create a piece of artwork (and a conversation piece) for your own floor! Mixed Media Decoupage

Create whimsical artwork (no artistic ability required!) on a stretched canvas using paper, acrylics, fabric, embroidery floss, ribbon and beads, as well as objets trouves, such as leaves, seed pods, shells. Learn decoupage and collage, which will form the base for this project, and then build on it using a variety of materials. Materials supplied by the instructor, but students are encouraged to bring in digital print-outs, pictures, charms etc. to personalize their work.

Braided Rag Rug

A combination of braiding and "weaving" produces a rug that is reversible, machine washable & virtually indestructible since it requires NO sewing! Learn how to make oval, round and square forms. Fabric will be provided to make a 7" trivet, which may be used as a starter. A variety of practical items including trivets, place mats, chair seats, pet beds and area rugs may be created using this method. All supplies will be provided.
