Wonderland At Whitehern

Expect the unexpected on a whimsical visit through the looking glass this March Break at Whitehern. Enjoy crazy croquet, sugar cube toss and don't miss our Mad Hatter Tea Party on the Wednesday where you can purchase tea and themed treats.

Join the parade this Easter at Whitehern with the old tradition of a new hat. Children create their own paper hat to celebrate spring and participate in a mid-day garden hat parade. Prizes awarded to all parading participants.

Ruby And The Rose


Whitehern Historic House & Garden

Ruby McQuesten won first prize in the Hamilton Art School's annual student exhibition in 1895. Her tragic early death from tuberculosis left a small collection which you will view work from during your visit to the family home. Using Ruby's watercolours as inspiration, join Nonni Iller as she teaches participants the basics of creating botanical watercolours.

2010 Grand Durand Garden Tour

This self-directed tour allows visitors a peek into 12 fabulous gardens within Hamilton's historic Durand neighbourhood. Refreshments will be served at The Stable at Whitehern.

On an evening visit to the McQuesten home, hear excerpts from the family's personal letters, papers, and obituaries that provide insight into the private lives of the family, interspersed with facts about Victorian mourning rituals. Then visit the Stable for tea, sweets, and entertainment.

The Mcquesten's Childhood Christmas

Enjoy this special time of year as the McQuestens look back on the Christmas of their childhood. Once a year we reveal the family's toys under a tree adorned with whimsical decorations in the style of the 1880s. The table is set with the China they used for Christmas and New Year's from the 1850s when they visited Grandpa, to the 1930s when Tom entertained his fellow politicians. Cedar roping and satin ribbon complete the picture.
